2.7 Acre Strip Mall, Chula Vista, CA

  • Commercial property project
  • Innovative laundromat driven irrigation system
  • One tenant’s wastewater is used to beautify the entire complex

Tucked away in an underground vault is a ReWater system that uses water from a 60 machine laundromat to irrigate 14,000 square feet of landscape in and around the 2.7 acre strip mall, located at 4th and C Street. The property owner had a ReWater system at his home and had this commercial system installed in 2003 after completely demolishing the old mall and replacing every tenant but the laundromat. Though this system contains the dirtiest greywater we’ve ever experienced, you can sip your Starbucks latte while the shrubbery next to your feet is irrigated with water that was discharged just moments ago from the laundromat, and you’d never know it.
